Computer-related stuff I've found interesting or helpful

BgInfo  How many times have you walked up to a system in your office and needed to click through several diagnostic windows to remind yourself of important aspects of its configuration, such as its name, IP address, or operating system version?  If you manage multiple computers you probably need BGInfo By Bryce Cogswell.

Gibson Research  Lots of good information here.  Steve Gibson has done a lot of work in the area of computer and internet security, as well as on several useful utilities for troubleshooting and maintaining your computers.

Karen Ware  Karen is the author of the popular Power Tools, free programs that make life with Windows a lot easier.  Karen also writes a free e-mail newsletter.  In it she discusses her new programs, answers reader questions, and explains technical details in a way that anyone can understand.

How well are images displayed on your PC's monitor?  The Monitor Adjustment Target was designed by NARA to allow computer users to adjust the contrast and brightness of their computer monitor so that graphic images, such as scans of photographs, textual documents, or maps, look their best.

The Tao of Backup  Did you backup your files today?  Visit The Tao of Backup and find out everything you need to know to protect your valuable data.  After you visit this one, you'll wonder how you've been so lucky NOT to have lost your computer's data.  You DID back-up your files today, didn't you?  Oh.  Better visit the Tao right away.

Ultra VNC  Did you ever need something from your home computer while you were away from home?  UltraVNC is a free remote control software package derived from the popular VNC software.  With UltraVNC, you can login to a remote machine and control it with your local mouse and keyboard, just like you would do it sitting in the front of that computer.  You can even transfer files back and forth.  Did I mention it's free?

W3 Schools  At W3Schools you will find all the Web-building tutorials you need, from basic HTML and XHTML to advanced XML, XSL, Multimedia and WAP.

Web Design Group  The Web Design Group was founded to promote the creation of non-browser specific, non-resolution specific, creative and informative sites that are accessible to all users worldwide.  To this end, the WDG offers material on a wide range of HTML related topics.  With this site as a reference, you will be able to create Web sites that can be used by every person on the Internet, regardless of browser, platform, or settings.

These are a few of my favorite websites.  Some of them may be helpful, others simply entertaining.  I'll add to the list from time-to-time, so come back and visit again.  You never know what you'll find.  If you should run across any "broken" links, please let me know, and I'll try to fix 'em.  If you have a favorite you think I should include, let me know about that, too.

Please report broken links to:   Enjoy.
